There were, however, still 21 minutes on the clock, leaving Los Blancos with plenty of time in which to stage a stunning fightback. They levelled matters through Lucas Vazquez with 17 minutes remaining, before England international Bellingham snatched a dramatic winner in stoppage-time.

DID YOU KNOW?

He was able to go through his own celebratory routine, much to the delight of Real followers. One fan made a point of mocking Lopez on social media afterwards, with Vinicius seeing the funny side of that as he reacted with a laughing emoji to claims that Barca’s 20-year-old midfielder "thought he was Jude Bellingham".

Vinicius took in more clashes with Barca on the field, before revelling in their demise off it. The Brazil international forward was booked following an altercation with Jules Kounde, and reacted angrily to being substituted with just under 10 minutes left – but did have the last laugh in a 3-2 victory for Los Blancos.
