Amad scored as United beat Betis 3-2, and also won a penalty in what was a vivid, energetic performance, adding to his excellent display in a previous friendly against Rangers. He insists he is ready to "step up" this term under Erik ten Hag. He spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Sunderland but last season he was limited to just 12 first-team appearances at Old Trafford.

Amad is now 22 and his contract expires in 2025, meaning that he will have to convince the Red Devils of his quality if he intends to stay at Old Trafford. Having made an impression in pre-season, he cannot wait for the new campaign to start.

WHAT AMAD SAID

Amad told United's website: "I feel very good. I think we were ready for the game and as I said yesterday [at the pre-match press conference], I feel like everybody in training was focused and today I saw that my team-mates were focused. We are happy for the win. For me it is important for me to fight for the team and to help the team. I do my job on the pitch and I am happy for that."

He added: "I am happy with [my] goal, but most importantly I am happy for the win. I want to step up this season because I am so motivated and I am so excited. I can't wait for the season to start."
